Introduction

Vocational Ballet School of Ho Chi Minh City (VBSH) was officially established in 1986 and is a training unit belonging to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The precursor of this school was short-term classes for providing, coaching and training professional actors and dancers to Propaganda Department of South Central Bureau, as well as Liberation Cultural and Artistic Troupes of South provinces. After the National Liberation Day, in 1975 The National Music School in Sai Gon was transformed into Ho Chi Minh City Music Conservatory, including Dance Division. In 1986, Dance Division was officially separated from Ho Chi Minh City Music Conservatory to become Vocational Ballet School of HCMC. At that time, the facilities of School were still limited, however, the Managing Board, staffs and teachers of School had overcame all difficulties to fulfil the training task for actors and dancers from Southern provinces, where was considered as ”low-lying areas” of professional dance industry. In 1995, the infrastructure construction for Vocational Ballet School was officially started at 155 Bis, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street, 3rd District, Ho Chi Minh City under the sponsor of The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. For the time being, the school has been implementing many affiliate programs with other domestic universities such as Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema, Military University of Culture and Arts….etc Through nearly 35 years of establishing and development, up to now Vocational Ballet School of HCMC is one of the two biggest Dance Art Training Centers in Vietnam. Generations of students graduating from this school have become the key force of significant contribution to the development of Dance Arts of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and of the Southern region in general.
